You can introduce any of these actions into your life, any time, and you will begin to feel the benefits.
Click on one of the five ways below to find out how you can improve your wellbeing through Connect Ceredigion.
Be active. Connect. Take notice. Keep learning. Give.
The Five Ways to Wellbeing are a set of practical actions aimed at improving our mental health and wellbeing. They were developed by the New Economics Foundation from evidence gathered in the Foresight Mental Capital and Wellbeing Project (2008).
We are encouraged to think about how often we do these five actions – on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Think about your life over the past few days, and when you last:
- Took real notice of the things around you
- Connected with someone important to you or perhaps someone you don’t know
- Were physically active
- Learned something new
- Gave something of value to someone else – this could be in the form of giving your time, or something of material value
Often, everyday situations can allow us to do more than one of the Five Ways in one go.
Be active
Activities such as walking encourage social interactions and boost overall mental health.
Connect
Take opportunities to connect, build, broaden, and strengthen relationships with others.
Take notice
Whether you are walking to work, eating lunch or talking to friends, savour the moment.
Keep learning
Learning can involve any manner of subjects, not just structured educational courses.
Give
Do something nice for a friend or a stranger. Thank someone. Smile. Join a community group.
